Finally: reduced costs, increased productivity. Use our tips to achieve this in your film logistics. This time: Food for thought regarding walking distances in the warehouse.

For 15 years, we at NEPATA have specialized in small and large logistics systems for film conversion around the world. In a new series, NEPATA CEO Fabian Franke reveals how you can optimize your own logistics. Strategy 1: Improve how your operations are organized. Here is some food for thought on the subject of walking distances. 1. Ensure short walking distances When we visit clients on-site, we often see logistics systems, for which no recognizable route optimization have been made. Certain media, film series or dyes are used more often than others. Optimize walking routes for fetching and delivering by placing the rolls that are most frequently used closest to the machines. It is worthwhile to simply take a look at your own ERP system’s data: What are the fast runners? 2. Also: Store supplies according to fast runners With films that are processed frequently, you will naturally require more replenishments of entire rolls. Thus perhaps, the pallet with the black or white films shouldn’t be at the top of the shelf. 3. Store cores closer to the machine Reducing walking distances isn’t just possible with films themselves, but also with material such as cardboard cores. Here, too, incredible distances are often accepted, e.g. in order to bring a certain width of sleeves to the machine for a certain film. Our clear recommendation: Store them in close proximity to the machine. Receive individual advice As your consultant, we will help you optimize your film logistics. Our advice is absolutely practice-oriented, tailored exactly to your company and regardless of whether you use machines from NEPATA. For more information on “Film Logistics Consulting”, click here
